At the age of 6, Sophia performed a recitation at a concert for Borough schoolchildren.

Programs Presented by the Children of the Public Schools.
It is the custom of the various schools in this section of the Borough to mark the closing of the Christmas Holidays with exercises appropriate to the season, at which in most cases the parents and friends of the children are welcome. The programs of some of the schools were as follows:

LADIES ORGANIZE TO AID CHURCH
Movement to Establish the Mishkan Israel Temple Congregation in Long Island City.
Several ladies of Long Island City met at the residence of Mrs. T. Tragheim, 428 Ditmars avenue, on Tuesday afternoon for the purpose of organizing a Ladies' Aid Society of the Mishkan Israel Congregation of Long Island City, to assist in the construction of a house of worship on the lot already purchased on the Crescent, between Grand and Newtown avenues. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Gustav Steiner; Vice-President, Mrs. A. Bergman; Treasurer, Mrs. J Eisenberg; Secretary, Mrs. L. Hirschbaum; Trustees: Mrs. Wagenheim, Mrs. T. Tragheim and Mrs. J Sigal.
The president appointed Mrs Wagenheim, Mrs. Heilbut and Mrs N. Kohn a committee to draft by-laws. The meeting adjourned to meet at Mrs. G. Steiner's residence on December 9th, at 8 p.m.
After the meeting the ladies spent a pleasant evening. Mrs. S. Hirschbaum and Miss Sophia Tragheim entertained with selections on the piano and songs were rendered by several ladies....

GET THEIR DIPLOMAS
Public Schools in All Sections of the City Hold Their Closing Exercises—Interesting Programme at No. 19, Manhattan.
At the closing exercises of P.S. 8, Queens, this morning, thirty-sevan graduated received diplomas. The hall was prettily decorated in pink and green, the class colors of 1904. Principal T. D. Melville had charge of the programme.
Among the recitations were those delivered by Amelia Bonsel, Annie Schreyer, Mary Santrucek, Elsie Illing, Susanna Lustgarten, Lorraine Hinchey, Frieda E Schubert, Henrietta Funke, and Iva Wirtalla.
The Rev. C. W. Lanfer addressed the graduated. He pointed out the paths to follow and those to shun. "America," by the whole school, closed the programme. The following received diplomas:
